Born in Tabora, Tanzania,
A Sikh who lived in London for 22 years before moving to Groningen (nl) in 1993.
Qualified from Academie Minerva in 2008 (richting schilderen)

For me art is communication, with the universal topic being the self.

I belong to that increasingly growing minority of cultural migrants. People who for one reason or another leave their birth society/culture behind to experience the schism of living and working abroad.

This transit life of mine, where I have experienced life on four continents lies at the core of all my work. The ability to feel at home everywhere but not belong anywhere is what gives me my artistic double vision. Allowing me to look and experience cultures as an insider and as someone looking in from the outside.

Everything is not art, everything is not autobiographic.

However for me and my work there is always an autobiographic element, conscious or unconscious, emotional or historic, realistic or atmospheric.
For me it is not possible to be a modern day artist and not include some part of yourself in any art work.

The starting point of any new work is the analysis of my cultural diaspora. Using a variety of materials and techniques I paint, draw, take photographs and build installations, all depending on the needs of the work and my feelings at that moment.
